Back From PAX and Vacations |

Several of the Board members attended this year's PAX and have come back renewed and ready to tackle Canada's own game convention head on. We talked with a lot of people, made a lot of contacts, and even ran into some Edmontonians in the seats of various panels.
A small setback occurred when the Federal Government decided to cancel the Canada New Media Fund, a fund operated by Telefilm Canada which has helped start Montreal's Festival Arcadia as well as run the Great Canadian Video Game Competition. Unfortunately the Conservative Government decided it would join in on the chopping block fun along with numerous arts and cultural grants. Telefilm found out about this two days before we had a conference call with the Vancouver office and the news broke in the Globe and Mail a week later. The bright side is that Telefilm loved our idea and wants us to keep in touch in case new funding sources are announced. We're crossing our fingers!
Big news aside, there are a few website changes are on the way, including bios for the Board members, blog pages, and updates to the Event section to let you, the reader, know just what it is we're planning. Websites are all about content, and we want to make this a content rich site. Step by step!

Several sections have been added to the site, offering brief glimpses at the general plan for the Convention itself, event sponsorship, and the governance of the Edmonton Game Convention.
Keep checking back -- more information will be published soon! |
